One thing to keep in mind, however, is that traps require “power”. Enemies will even aim for traps, making it a good distraction tool. The beauty of traps is that you can abuse the enemy AI, but drop down to an enemy’s level, drop a few traps, and then retreat while they do the work. Along with coolness-enhancing mutations, you can remove these traps every 3-4 seconds.
These are automatic turrets that will shoot all enemies in range once you drop them. There are a few in the game, but my favorites are the Sinew Slicer and the Double Crossb-o-wmatic. The ones to avoid are things like The Impaler or the aforementioned Spartan Boots, both of which have too conflicting environmental requirements to trust. The Infantry Bow grants critical hits when used near enemies, while the Blood Sword always deals bleed damage to you. My advice: choose items with effects that are easy to get. Spartan Boots, for example, only cost five cells, but they’re bad almost everywhere, and you’d better not have them in your item pool.
